1. You were in Japan for 4 years, so why did you come back to develop your career in China instead?First, it's because my contract was almost up. If I had to continue it, it would be for 3 years and above. I'm not that 19-year-old girl anymore. I'm already 20 something, so I especially missed home and my family. It's lonely being in a foreign land.
2. Being in Japan, what was the most difficult thing about it?The language and then the loneliness.
3. Did you make friends over there? You look like you have a good relationship with your producer based on your Weibo.Yes, I'm especially thankful to my producer and my Japanese team. I feel like our relationship is more than just work, but we're like friends instead. When I had to go to Taiwan for work, my Japanese manager and producer used their own money to buy a ticket to come see me. When I had a press conference for an album in Chengdu, my previous Japanese manager hid in my house's kitchen and she suddenly jumped out, so I was scared. It's far from Tokyo to Chengdu, so I was very grateful to them to come for me.
4. When you meet an obstacle, how do you overcome it?First, I'm really lucky because my journey has been pretty peaceful. Of course there are some difficulties like not being able to get other people's understanding. It wasn't like that, but they say it is like people on Weibo would say things to hurt you. At first, I really cared about it, but then I felt like if I got angry, then I've fallen into their trap. I just ignore them now.
5. What's your dream?I have a different dream at different stages of my life. I'm a kid that came out from the countryside because my hometown was in Kangding. I want to go to my dad's hometown and build a kindergarten because I feel like those kids are in a dangerous place. Our old house had a balcony on the second floor and those little kids would climb up. Sometimes they would fall down and waiting for them was a pig pen. I feel like this is really dangerous, so if there was a kindergarten for the kids, then it'll be safer. My dream at this current stage is to hope that I can find my own route in music.
6. After joining your new company, how did your musical style change? The change was really big because it has to match the Chinese industry. Everyone's taste are different, but I still hoped to do a grand style. I don't want to make a low-quality album because if I had to, I would rather not sing.
7. For this new album "Love song", you were the chief planner, so what were your responsibilities?Actually, I was responsible as the chief planner and the producer because we had a big problem when we were receiving demos. Producer Yuan Wei Ren from Taiwan gathered a lot of songs that were ballads. This album has 3 ballads, but I don't want to sing more. So, we then quickly asked Anson Hu to write "Yi Ai Xiang Yi" and found someone else and he wrote "Love Song" and "Feng Huang". It was hard to make this album because not only do you have to sing, but you're in charge of the music and then after singing, you have to listen to which areas aren't good. Even for the album cover photoshoot, I asked the photographer to come from Japan. I had to do all of these things.
8. Are you preparing for your next album?I hope the next
album will come out faster, but for the next album, we may use a
different style of presenting it to everyone. Compared to the latest
album, there will be a big change. I will decide the next album.
9. As the lead female character in "Bird Nest: Attraction", what was your deepest impression in the shooting? This musical has many female leads, but I don't know if it's because I'm skinny or something, but they chose me to shoot underwater. When we first began, they said that they'll use me for all the promotion and video footage. I was really happy, but then I knew when I went. No wonder they wanted me because who would want to be in the water for 10 hours shooting underwater, but it turned out very beautiful in the end.
10. Can you simply describe your character in this musical? It's a spirit traveled in ice and that she travels through time. It's a bit like Avatar. The stage design is totally cool and half of the Bird Nest stadium is lit by LED lights.
11. In order to act in "Bird Nest: Attraction", you had to give up on other opportunities, so do you regret it?Just a bit. When TV dramas and movies wanted me, I felt very conflicted. My company said that film and TV would help me and it'll be regretful if I don't shot them, so I felt very hesitant. However, as soon as I received an offer for a musical, I said I wanted this one because it's related to music. I feel like this is my life, so I should take control.
12. How has your life changed compared to when you were in Japan?First, I can often see my parents because they are getting older. Second is that my lifestyle is more disciplined because when I was in Japan, I wouldn't have meals at the right time. Now, my mom makes a nourishing soup for me everyday.
13. So you live with your parents right now? They've all went back to Chengdu. First, it was my mom and then my dad snuck back.
14. How often do you call them?I often call my dad and I'm fine with my mom. If I don't have anything special, I won't call my mom because in my family, my mom plays the bad cop. My dad is nicer, so my relationship with my dad is better.
15. Do you prefer Chinese or Japanese cuisine?I still prefer Chinese cuisine. I just went to Paris and Italy, but I kept on searching for Sichuan cuisine and hot pot. Instead, when I returned to China, I started going to French restaurants. I told my friends on Weibo that I was crazy that I started eating French cuisine in China.
16. When you don't have work, what do you like to do?I like to stay at home. I often go to the salon to get my face done or a massage. I live like an old person. I don't like sports or exercise. If I shop, I don't shop in Beijing. I don't really have anything I especially like to do in Beijing.
17. What kind of fashion do you like? It's best buying things in Japan. It's fine buying in Japan or Europe. If I buy a pricey brand, I won't buy it in China, but I'll definitely go to Hong Kong to shop.
18. What habits do you have?I would always have a vapor sprayer and put water into it, so I can spray my face with. I'm often away for work, so no matter if it's on a plane or a car, I would immediately oversleep even if I only have a hour. Now, I can't really fall asleep at home.
19. What do you think the modern girl should be like?I think that in my heart, the modern girl should be someone who is tender and tough without losing their charm. From Sichuan to Beijing and then to Japan, I've been away from my parents for most of my time, so I had to approach things by myself. It's because of those environment that made me grow stronger, so I can overcome any obstacle. My new album "Love Song" chronicled my growth and change in these 4 years and I put all of my dreams into those songs. This is the best gift for the fans who has always been supporting me.
