Subject: Do you listen to Thai music at all? Sat Sep 17, 2011 10:07 pm
When we westerners, whatever our descent, start getting interested in Asian music, we tend to mostly listen to music from 3 countries - Japan, South Korea, Taiwan. Nothing else. It is probably because these countries are famous, developped and produce export-worthy movies and TV shows such as dramas.
However, I'm a very curious person. As a result, one day I thought I'd try and check out the music from another quite popular Asian country - the kingdom of Siam, or (if you prefer) Thailand. The Thai language is beautiful, or at least it sounds particularly nice to my ears. It's similar to Mandarin in that it uses tones which can modify the meaning of the words. Nevertheless it's spelt with some kind of alphabet and not symbols like Chinese ideograms. I was willing to learn it but I think it's too hard (for me) without a personal teacher, which pretty much sucks. Do give it a shot, though, if you're motivated and love languages too! ~
Back to music: I came to know a rock band that I absolutely love who are called Klear. It's hard to find reliable intel about them in English, but I know the main vocalist is a woman called Pat and the other members are men. Here's a track called Haai:
_ Next is Da Endorphine - Parb luang tar. She used to be the vocalist of a band called Endorphine, but they broke up so she went for a solo career, adding her name Da before the name of the group. This girl is full of talent, truly. Her songs are very diverse, they can be sad, upbeat, slow, uplifting.. her voice seems to fit absolutely everything she sings.
_ Last but not least, Punch - Sen Tahng Haeng Kwahm Ruk (the path of love). Lovely song. I'm a little disappointed with the artist, however. I downloaded all of her albums and listened to every track but that seems to be the only one I really like. Great song anyway.
That's it. Hope you enjoyed the songs. Thanks for reading and sorry if I made you waste your time!

I am also Thai and it's great to see fans of Thai music since we have some very good musicians. I listen to a wide variety of Thai pop. Favorite band is Bodyslam but artist is Tata Young. Newer artist that I enjoy are Singular and Lula.
