An interview with alan who breaks new ground with ‘kanashimi wa yuki ni nemuru’!

A new song that illustrates pure love from a female point of view.

A girl who continues to rise as an Asian songstress with her exceptional singing voice: alan. Her new song ‘kanashimi wa yuki ni nemuru’ is the theme song for the movie ‘Sakurada Mongai no Hen’. It’s a heartbreaking love song in which she sings about the feelings of a woman who continues to wait for her lover. The lyrics were written by Ise Shouzou, known from the song ‘nagori yuki’. And the composer is Seikou Nagaoka, known for writing the music for the drama series ‘Jin’. This is definitely a song that allows alan to break new ground.

“When I first heard it’s a story that really happened 150 years ago, I felt some pressure, but I also felt honoured that I was allowed to sing this song. The word ‘chishio (strong passion)’ that appears in the lyrics illustrates the passion and conviction of the warrior. The word ‘yuki (snow)’ illustrates the true, all-encompassing love of the woman. Even more so than vocal skills, I felt it was important to insert feelings into this song. That’s why I recorded the song only after I got information from the movie staff about the background and content of the story.”

The b-side ‘na mo naki tane’, is the ending theme for the animation movie ‘Wake up!! TAMALA’. Ishiwatari Junji helped write the lyrics. The song contains a deep message. She also looks really cute on the jacket photo that was shot after alan cut her trademark long hair short!

“I may have cut it too short (laughs). But it’s really easy to take care off now ♪.”

This summer, aside from her solo live and a-nation, she also went to the Shanghai World Expo and won the awards for best newcomer and best song at the Hong Kong Music Awards; she was really busy.

“In that busy period I flew 14 times in a 10 day period, so I wouldn’t know where I was when I woke up (laughs). I was also happy that I was able to visit my mother for a short period at that time! Because I currently live separated from my family, I’ve grown to value family more than I did in the past.”

It has almost been 3 years since her debut in Japan. When she first arrived in Japan, she couldn’t speak Japanese and was full of insecurities but she says that lately she has finally gotten used to everything.

The Japanese text was unclear about whether he did it by himself or just co-wrote it, so I left it kind of vague in the translation too xD
