So, who are some music artists/bands/composers you would like to see alan collaborate with? They can be from any genre, and from anywhere in the world. My personal picks would be:
SingerSen and Sa Dingding - Both are influenced by ethnic Chinese music, with Sa Dingding particularly focusing on the music of China's ethnic minorities. SingerSen's music tends to lean more towards an experimental, electronic/Darkwave/Gothic sound, although some of her songs can be more upbeat, catchy pop. She also has the vocal pipes to match alan as well.
Click spoiler for youtube links:
Spoiler:
SingerSen:
One of experimental-sounding songs:
Which stands as a stark contrast to this much more upbeat, catchy, pop song:
Sa Dingding:
Sa Dinding sings not only in Mandarin, but Sanskrit, Tibetan, and her own made up langauge. This song is in Sanskrit.
Masashi Hamauzu - The main composer for Final Fantasy XIII and XIII-2's OSTs. Absolutely amazing work, I put this man on the same pedestal as Nobuo Uematsu. I can only imagine the level of epicness alan could achieve with Hamauzu writing the song.
Spoiler:
Final Fantasy XIII OST:
Those first two songs make me shed manly tears, but these next two songs are pure epic.
Hamauzu even mixes in a few electronic elements into some of his music:
Final Fantasy XIII-2 OST (To be fair, some of the tracks were composed by co-composers Naoshi Mizuta and Mitsuto Suzuki):
Manly tears coming out again for these two tracks:o21
There were quite a lot of tracks with vocals on this OST. This one was sung by Kokia, and is without a doubt the saddest song in the game.
The Epic:
Some more vocal tracks:
Sung by Origa:
Sung by Joelle:
Joe Hisaishi - ....I don't really need to explain this one, do I? Go watch a Hayao Miyazaki movie if you don't understand. :P An alan/Hisaishi collab needs to happen
Spoiler:
Princess Mononoke is still my all-time favorite Ghibli movie.
Spirited Away:
Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind
Now for something completely out of the left field.
Devin Townsend - Devin Townsend is one of my favorite musicians of all time. Although his main genre is Metal, he's extremely diverse in his songwriting; he's straddled both ends of the spectrum, from soul-crushingly brutal, extreme music, to soft, calm, Enya-level ambient music, and everything in between. He's a pretty great guitarist, and has one of the best voices in Rock/Metal, imo (I heard he was classically trained). I know Rock and Metal aren't really alan's forte, but I think it'd make for an interesting collaboration, and knowing Townsend, I'm certain he'd be able to make it work.
Spoiler:
I think his more extreme, bat-**** crazy style would be out of the question, but his much more friendly Prog Rock/Metal/New Age style might accommodate alan a little better, lol:
And just cuz I wanna put a song that showcases Devin's vocal prowess, here's a cover of Frank Sinatra's "New York, New York." 2:16 - 2:26 = awesome :
Chthonic - My most wtf pick out of them all, Chthonic are a Symphonic Black Metal band from Taiwan, and imo, the best musical act to come out of there yet, lol. What makes them awesome is that they incorporate a lot of ethnic Taiwanese and Chinese musical elements into their songs, and despite this being some rather extreme music, famous Taiwanese Enka and Opera singers such as Yu Tien and Tang Meiyun have lend their talents on a few songs of theirs. The vocalist, Freddy Lim, plays the erhu himself. I would love to see him and alan do an erhu duet, or even better - a dual, lol. Plus, it'd be awesome to see two beauties share the stage, as their bassist, Doris Yeh, is often voted as one of the hottest (if not THE hottest) women in Metal. Alas, this would probably be the least likely of collaborations to ever happen, as Chthonic are extremely anti-CCP and KMT, and very vocal about it, basing a lot of their lyrics on controversial subject matters from Taiwan's history (although they also like to mix in a lot of mythology as well). They're already banned from playing in the Mainland. If alan were to collaborate with Chthonic, I wouldn't put it past the CCP to blacklist her as an artist. :(
Spoiler:
Awesome music video, lol. About halfway through the song becomes totally epic:
"LET ME STAND UP LIKE A TAIWANESE, ONLY JUSTICE WILL BRING YOU PEACE!" Badass. Also, dance number! XD :
Their concerts look like a lot of fun to go to. Tossing up ghost money and burning KMT flags? Sure, why not, lol:
Another great, epic song, and a pretty cool-looking music video about Taiwanese kamikaze pilots during WWII. I love how the erhu adds an overall somber feeling towards the end:
Sorry if this came across as being a little long, it's late a night and there's nothing to do, heh.
Alright, let's here your picks now! Remember, it can be anyone!

oh i'd like to hear her with SingerSen but i somehow think they are way too different in vocal matter, tho might work..
I think i'd die for Alan x GACKT song.... i have a feeling their voices would go very beautifully together. As well as i think the composing that alan choses have a lot of what GACKT does with his compositions and arangements. i can imagina GACKT singing almost every ballad of Alan's xD and visa versa xD
And also KOKIA x Alan that would be pretty much angelic!

They do have their own distinct vocal style, but the contrast might make for some interesting songs.
How could I forget about Gackt? They definitely would compliment each other quite nicely.
And agreed, Kokia and alan would make for an amazing collaboration as well.
Spoiler:
An Origa collaboration would be great, too.

I have to say that you guys pretty much covered everyone I would have chosen to collaborate with alan lol
I especially like the idea of alan's voice with SingerSen, Kokia, and Gackt. I think those would be absolutely epic songs :D

I would think SingerSen's...unique weirdness would overshadow alan too much
But I do love the idea of alan x KOKIA! Their voices are just so delicate and pure!
I remember GACKT singing Shima Uta (an Okinawa folk song that I always wanted alan to sing), but I can imagine a very nice duet with the both of them!

I think if SingerSen did a song with alan in line more with her own pop stuff as opposed to her experimental side, it could possibly work. Something along the lines of songs like Ghost Street, or maybe Singer:
Although I would love to hear alan cover Wolf:

Since Yuna Ito made that duet with Celine Dion, I dreamed about a similar thing with alan. For me alan is a lot like Celine, as a singer: the quiet, yet classy and regal kind, both with amazing and powerful voices, made for ballad mostly.

For a long time, I really wanted alan to collaborate with Leehom Wang he's from Republic of China (Taiwan) and he's really famous. Even, if alan does collaborates with him... she will gain more fans. Hopefully.

Just thought of two more composers and a band I'd like to see alan work with some day:
Yasunori Mitsuda - The composer for Chrono Trigger and Chrono Cross. Absolutely loved his work on both games, but it's Chrono Cross that made me think of him collaborating with alan. That game's OST had a great mix-up of various musical styles from across the world, from Celtic, Mediterranean, Fargo, African, and so on. With that kind of versatility, what with being no stranger to world music, I think an alan/Mitsuda collab would work wonders.
Spoiler:
I don't think there's a JRPG fan that doesn't know this song by now, lol:
Some more of that old world music mixing that Mitsuda did so well:
Beautiful acoustic vocal track:
Yoko Kanno - She's done some fantastic work for a lot of animes, including Macross Plus, Cowboy Bebop, The Vision of Escaflowne, Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex and Wolf's Rain, to name a few. Some of the vocal tracks she's composed have a very ethereal feel to them (ex. "Moon"), which I think would compliment alan nicely.
Spoiler:
My favorite track from Ghost in the Shell:
This song is from Turn A Gundam:
And this one is from the Escaflowne movie:
Nightwish - Finnish Symphonic Metal band. Considering female vocals and Symphonic Metal go together so well...I dunno, I think it's be kinda neat to see alan perform with what is arguably the most well-known and popular band in the genre.
Spoiler:
The band with their first vocalist, Tarja Turunen:
The band with their second vocalist, Anette Olzen (although she left last year):
Ridiculously epic, 14-minute opener to their first album with Anette. Well worth a listen despite the length:
