I hope you enjoy alan's new single as much as I do ^^
I'm translating the lyrics of Kaze ni mukau hana into French and I'd like to understand them more. (Hope this topic is appropriate :s)
So here it is:

ありがとう　
その言葉を
心から
言えるように → According to your translation, the subject of this sentence is "we". But what makes you think so?

ただ運命は But fate
同じ気持ちを the same feelings
伝えるために in order to convey
苦しみだけ only sorrow
教えるけど teaches (though) → you chose to translate the parts I underlined with "so we may understand each other". Why? I don't mean to say you're wrong; it's just that I can't get the connection.

I think the correct translation of the song title is: "Flower in the wind"

^ well mukau means "to face"

I think that maybe mukau means "in the direction of":

And in this case it would refer to that the flower is in the wind.

@Iki: I think both can be used and pretty much mean the same thing, but personally I just feel 'flower facing the wind' sounds prettier XD

@maelstrom:
1. I chose ‘we’ because in the latter part of that stanza (=忘れないで人は誰もが風に向かう花) she uses the command form of ‘wasureru’. This means she is ordering other people to remember (otherwise it would be something like 忘れてはいけない). It would be weird that others should remember that ‘everyone is a flower facing the wind’ so she alone can say ‘thank you’.

It’s hard to explain XD And I admit I am not 100% sure either, but I feel the part you highlighted and the “忘れないで人は誰もが風に向かう花” don’t connect properly if I use ‘I’.

2. A literal translation would be ‘Fate teaches only sorrow in order to convey the same feelings’ or ‘Fate teaches only sorrow for the sake of conveying the same feelings’, which to me doesn’t make a whole lot of sense in English.

Normally you convey(tsutaeru) (and teach(oshieru)) something to someone and I used ‘us’ as the subject again.
I took ‘in order to convey the same feelings [to us]’ as ‘allowing us humans to understand we all have the same feelings [and can therefore understand each other]’. But now that I look at it again, the ‘understand’ part is a bit too much of a stretch... so I’ll change it XD

Did that make any sense? It’s hard to explain. You can always go for a more literal translation in French.
